For years, Sarah and Andy Justice from Tulsa, Oklahoma dreamed of becoming parents. But month after month, nothing happened.
They tried treatments, waited, hoped – and still went home to a quiet house. After about three years of disappointment, the couple made a big decision: instead of chasing more procedures, they would build their family through adoption.
A routine ultrasound that changed everything
Before long, Sarah and Andy were matched with a pregnant woman who had decided to place her baby for adoption. When it was time for the routine ultrasound, the Justices went with her, excited to finally “meet” the little life they’d been praying for.
But as the doctor moved the probe over the mother’s belly, the room shifted from calm to stunned.
There wasn’t just one baby on the screen.
There were three. The birth mother was expecting triplets.
The news shocked everyone — the doctors, the woman carrying the babies and, of course, Sarah and Andy. But after the surprise wore off, the couple knew their answer: they would adopt all three.
Fragile beginnings for three tiny fighters
In 2014, the triplets finally arrived: Joel, Hannah and Elizabeth. They were born very prematurely and needed round-the-clock care in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Instead of decorating a nursery and taking sleepy photos at home, the Justices spent those first days by hospital incubators, watching tubes, wires and monitors.
It was a stressful start – but also the happiest time of their lives. After everything they had gone through, they were finally a mom and dad.
One week later: “We have something to tell you…”
Just seven days after welcoming the triplets, Sarah went in for a doctor’s appointment of her own. It was supposed to be routine. Instead, she and Andy were hit with another life-changing surprise.
Sarah was pregnant.
The couple could hardly process it. For years, they had been told it would be very difficult for them to conceive. Now, after filling their arms with three babies through adoption, life had decided to add more.
And that wasn’t all. The scan showed two heartbeats – Sarah wasn’t just pregnant, she was expecting twins.
In what felt like the blink of an eye, Sarah and Andy went from being childless… to raising three premature newborns… with two more babies on the way.
Five under the age of one
About eight months later, the Justice home grew again when twins Abigail and Andrew were born. In just over a year, the family had gone from zero kids to five.
Sleep became a luxury. Bottles, laundry and late-night feedings took over their daily routine. The couple estimated that at one point they were using around 300 diapers per week – as soon as one changing was finished, it was almost time to start another.
Yet when they were interviewed on the TODAY show in 2014, neither Sarah nor Andy expressed regret. Tired, yes. Overwhelmed at times, absolutely. But they were also deeply grateful.
“We just love having these children,” Sarah said simply.
A sixth little miracle
Just when friends and family thought the Justice story couldn’t get any more unbelievable, life surprised them again.
Not long after the twins were born, Sarah discovered she was expecting another baby. This time it was a single pregnancy, and when little Caleb arrived, the couple officially became parents of six children in less than two years.
From years of infertility and heartbreak to a bustling home filled with tiny voices, the transformation was almost hard to believe.
A house full of noise, love and gratitude
As the children have grown, photos of the Justice family show a cheerful, chaotic home: matching birthday shirts, group hugs, and a line of kids that seems to go on forever. The triplets celebrated their sixth birthday not long ago, and all of the siblings are thriving.
There are still challenging days, of course. Raising six kids is no small task. But Sarah and Andy’s attitude hasn’t changed – they see their family as an enormous blessing after a long period when they feared they might never be parents at all.
Their story is a reminder that life doesn’t always follow the plan we draw up. Sometimes, doors stay closed for a long time. And then, suddenly, they all open at once.
For the Justice family, those open doors led to exactly what they had dreamed of from the very beginning: a big, noisy, love-filled home — and more little miracles than they ever expected.
