Mel C got married this past weekend, and of all the details that have come out of the day, the one people keep circling back to is the dress. Or, to be more exact, whose name is on it.
If you owned a Spice Girls cassette, you know Melanie Chisholm as Sporty Spice, the one in the tracksuit who could actually hit the high notes. She is 52 now, and on Saturday, July 18th, she stood at a lakeside estate in Cumbria, up in England’s Lake District, and got married. Green hills, still water, the whole thing tucked away from the world. Exactly the kind of setting you’d choose if you had spent thirty years being watched and finally wanted a day that belonged only to you.
The groom is Chris Dingwall, an Australian model. And the way the two of them found each other is almost stubbornly ordinary for a woman who once played to stadiums.
They met on Raya. The dating app. About three years ago, two people swiping through profiles like everybody else, except one of them had sold tens of millions of records. There is something quietly funny about that, and quietly hopeful too. If a Spice Girl is out there in her late forties, giving a dating app a real shot and actually finding the person, the rest of us can probably stop feeling silly about it.
Chris kept a low profile through the whole courtship, which seems to be his default setting and part of why it worked. No red-carpet debut, no staged reveal. Just a steady thing built mostly away from cameras. By the time anyone was really paying attention, they were already serious.
He proposed last summer, in July of 2025, on the island of Mallorca. A year, more or less, before the wedding. The pair had already made it official once before, quietly, with a legal ceremony over in Australia, his home turf. So Saturday in the Lake District was less a legal formality and more the real celebration, the one with the view and the friends and the dress everyone is now talking about.

Because here is the part that made people stop scrolling.
Both of her wedding looks that day were Victoria Beckham.
Yes, that Victoria Beckham. Posh Spice. The one who stood next to Melanie on all those stages, arms crossed, in the little black dress and the sharp bob. The two of them came up together, five young women who became one of the biggest pop acts on the planet, and then went their separate ways into separate lives. Victoria built a genuine, respected fashion house in the years since, the kind that dresses actual brides. And when her old bandmate needed a wedding wardrobe, that is where it came from.
Victoria was not even at the wedding. She was across the Atlantic in the States at the time, wrapped up in the World Cup, so she watched the day happen from a distance. But her fingerprints were all over it anyway. There is something genuinely touching in that. Two women who shared a stage in their twenties, now in a completely different chapter, one of them turning to the other for the single most photographed outfit of her life.
Melanie has never been the loud one about her private life. Over the years she has talked honestly about anxiety, about burnout, about the strange whiplash of being world-famous at 24 and then having to figure out who you are once the noise dies down. She took her time. She did the work. And somewhere in all of that, in her fifties, on a dating app of all places, she found a man from the other side of the world who was happy to keep things quiet and let her have her peace.
They don’t seem to be in any rush to make a spectacle of it. A legal ceremony in Australia, a proposal on a Spanish island, a celebration by an English lake, a dress from a woman who has known her since before either of them was famous. Told in order, it reads less like a celebrity wedding and more like a life that took the long way around and landed somewhere good.
Sporty married the man she met by swiping right, in a dress from Posh. Somewhere, a nine-year-old from 1997 is losing her mind, and honestly, fair enough.
